On February 27th, 2004 a session of the Defense and Security Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia was held in the headquarters of the Security-Information Agency, attended by members of all parliamentary parties.
After informing members of the Council about the Report on the work of the BIA for the period June-December 2003, and about the Report on the security situation in the Republic of Serbia, the Chairman of the Council, Milorad Mircic- who was managing the work of the session - opened a debate on these topics and on the work of the Agency in general.
During a seven-hour debate, in which all members of the Council participated, BIA representatives gave detailed information on certain segments of the stated reports, in accordance with the expressed interests of the MPs. Furthermore, they answered a large number of questions relating to the status, activities and work of the Agency, such as: key directions of activities and results, methodology of work, number and structure of applied special methods, ways and means of implementing court control, relations between the Agency and other security services and bodies, international cooperation, the economical and other status of Agency members, results of the privatization process, changes in the personnel structure after October 5th, 2000 in the Agency headquarters and Agency centers, the status and participation of the Agency in the operation "Sablja" ("Sword"), activities on the reform of the security system.
After a detailed discussion on these and other matters of importance for the work and parliamentary control of the BIA, members of the Council unanimously adopted the reports on the work of the BIA and on the security situation, as well as the conclusions regarding the necessity of further joint efforts on the creating of conditions for the defining of legal frameworks for the constant improvement of the quality of work in the Agency, and for the constructive and legal implementation of parliamentary control.
