During the celebration of the Security Information Agency Day, on October 17, 2005, the Director of the Agency addressed the guests present at the reception in the Agency Headquarters with the following words:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It gives me great pleasure to be able to welcome you and to extend my appreciation of your presence here tonight, which contributes to the celebration of the Day of the Security Information Agency on the 106. Anniversary of the existence of the security service in Serbia.

Formal dates are always a nice occasion to sum up the results and draw the line under a period of time, no matter how brief it is.

During the last year, the Agency and its members were engaged in several concurrent issues and the process was developing in a uniform and dynamic manner, according to our estimation.

The Security Information Agency has, during the past period, given its full contribution to stability and security strengthening, in the country itself and in the region, in keeping with the obligations and competencies prescribed by the Law.

I would like to benefit from this opportunity to extend gratitude, on behalf of the Agency members and on my own behalf, to all the state institutions and departments which helped us to achieve this goal. It should, also, be noted that, in this respect, we have had an open cooperation, with overall mutual understanding and agreement.

Let me point out that the Security Information Agency today represents a state institution, which protects national interests in the real sense of the word, namely the interests of the state and its population as a whole, rather than just the interests of one nation.

The other important task that the Agency is undertaking is the process of enhancing its capacities to match all current security challenges. Establishing the reputation of the Agency and distancing itself from the negative legacy is possible only by obeying the principles we have established - legality of the working process, high professionalism and skills, as well as full application of all the legal mechanisms of control.

That can only be achieved through a systematic streamlining of the Agency personnel. After a long period of time, we have had a significant arrival of young, highly educated people, graduated from the best schools in Serbia. The Agency is a year older, but its members are significantly rejuvenated and eager to work and contribute to the global renewal of our country.

I am confident that in the process of outlining the Agency reforms, the key factors will be young, literate people, morally spotless and educated according to the highest professional standards.

Finally, the third important segment in the domain of our activities was the engagement of the Agency within the international cooperation. I can gladly point out that we are involved in almost all the security processes linking the partner services in the region and in a broader international community. We are undoubtedly determined to give our full contribution to European integration of the Republic of Serbia and, in this respect, the cooperation between the intelligence security services today simply does not have any other alternative, both in bilateral and multilateral level.

I would like to reassure all the services with which we have established bilateral cooperation that the Security Information Agency will always be a reliable, responsible and honest partner in countering all the contemporary security challenges.

I would like you all to feel pleasant in our Agency tonight.

Thank you for your attention.
