SECURITY-INFORMATION AGENCY DAY

On October 17, 2007, the Security-Information Day a reception was organized at the BIA headquarters and on that occasion, the Director of the Agency addressed those present:



Dear Mr. President,
Mr. Prime Minister,
Respectable Ministers,
Your Excellences,
Ladies and Gentlemen, and
Dear friends,

It is an exceptional honor for me and pleasure to greet You on the behalf of the Security-Information Agency of the Republic of Serbia, and to thank You for accepting our invitation to celebrate with us the 108th Anniversary of the existence of Serbian National Security Service.

As hosts on this day, what has already became a tradition, I would also like to convey genuine pleasure of all members of the Security-Information Agency, to the respectable representatives from universities, field of science, judiciary, state administration, business world, media, religious communities, non-governmental sector, in other words to all the respectable representatives of our society.

To us, Your presence also symbolizes a sign of understanding for the necessity of creating social consensus about the stance that national security is the fundamental task of the Agency, and also a general concern of the community. We especially appreciate every support in that respect, and it is up to the Agency members to justify the expressed confidence by fulfilling all their duties regarding the protection of the state and the peaceful life of Serbian citizens.

We are also aware that in the forthcoming period great challenges are awaiting us in the domain of preserving territorial integrity of Serbia, countering subversive and illegal activities, economic security and the protection of citizens from all forms of extremism. Determination of all members of the Agency is to carry out these duties entirely, in spite of the remaining presence of inherited shortcomings in the functioning of the Agency and in the society as a whole.

Citizens of Serbia can be at peace as all BIA activities are exclusively directed towards the protection of the State and its citizens, in line with the established state policy and the implementation of legally founded authorizations and that to the required extent.

Security-Information Agency is a year older now, but also younger for another generation of highly educated members. Together with senior colleagues, they represent a unique formation characterized by professionalism and patriotism. Serving the state and fully respecting the law and democratic principles constitute the basis of BIA giving it strength to fulfill its assigned obligations.
